Very Refreshing June 17, 2010 D. Ouddane (UK) I had not played guitar in a few years and forgotten alot of the basic things, so i thought id refresh my memory.
So far im 43 pages into the book and its a great read. For beginners or even just to remember and reignite an old passion i recommend it.
Very poor. April 29, 2010 M. Lea 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is really not worth the money. All it teaches you are some tricks to make you sound as though you can play, but it doesn't develop musicality, or sound technique. Really, you should get a teacher instead. To learn an instrument well is a gift that will enrich you for life. To learn an instrument poorly is to accept mediocrity. I agree with the reviewer who said anyone who has been playing more than a month would find this dull as ditch water. I actually found it painful. There are many good books in this series... however, this is not one of them.
guitar for dummies April 8, 2010 Mr. D. Royal (essex near the planes!) this was a second purchase for my grandson as a teaching aid.
great book for its kind.
Very good book April 6, 2010 Yugguy (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've only been learning a few weeks but I have found that this is a very comprehensive book that will get you going and point you at all the different styles - there's no book that could cover everything about a guitar but this certainly gives a good grounding.
I have found a couple of things - there's very little about alternate/drop tuning and not enough about alternate fingering - e.g. I can't do A as 123, but I can as 234 and it's easier to go to different chords. But the Internet is full of info so that's no big problem.
I'd also recommend not learning the "easy" G first (123), but going straight to 234, even though it is harder, it's better to move to other chords from.
One thing I really liked about this book was that I only needed to learn 4 or 5 chords and then could play a song, just a simple one but it gave me a real sense of achievement, more than just doing only chord progressions.
I would definitely recommend this to beginners.
I am a dummy April 3, 2010 J. Wilson (Leeds) so it's a great book for me. Easy to follow and understand with some good songs to get you started.
