Amazon.co.uk Review Proving yet again their willingness to dice 'n' slice their burgeoning legacy into new--if not exactly fresh--product, the Fab Four Minus One released this single disc compendium of their No. 1 hits. Though obviously superfluous to long-time Fabs faithful (who may also find themselves quibbling over the precise definition of "No. 1 hit" and the exclusion of seeming contenders like "Please Please Me" and "Strawberry Fields"), newly arrived visitors from the Pleiades star cluster and other neophytes will find it a concise and generous (nearly 80 minutes) single-disc introduction to the band's career-spanning, unparalleled dominance of pop music in the 1960s and beyond. But more than merely a trophy case of commercial success (and it won't be hard to find people to argue that these singles aren't even the band's best work), 1 is also a quick sketch of a remarkable seven-year musical evolution, one that stretches from the neo-skiffle of "Love Me Do" through a remarkable synthesis of R&B, rockabilly, Tin Pan Alley, gospel, country and classical that still defies efforts to effectively deconstruct it. --Jerry McCulley

The Beatles 1 Album October 1, 2009 Mr. J. Prescott I admit to not being the most devoted beatles fan but liked some of their songs so decided to purchase their '1' album as it contained most of the songs i knew. I found the album really good with countless classic songs from track 1 to finish. I'd definitely recommend this if you like the beatles and like their most recognisable songs.
neatles number one;s September 13, 2009 Keith R. Watson (uk) Please please me should be on this album because it did get to number one.
Anyone who was a round at the time would know that there were 3 music papers.
N.M.E Melody maker and another one , at least one of these listed Please Please me at number one, it should be on the album, but i'm afraid that Penny lane / Strawberry fields did only get to number two, shame.

1.....Ok...The Clue Is In The Album Title.....If Certain Tracks Aren't On Here, Then They Were Not Number 1 In Britain Or America....So Marking This Down Because Of The Absence Of Album Favourites Or Number 2 Singles Is Petty & Laughable!!!....
.......Every UK & US Number One Hit From " Love Me Do" To The " Long And Winding Road", Brilliantly Remastered, With Excellent, Informative Photos And Chart Information..........And A Quality Intro From None Other Than George Martin Himself.......Lovers Of ALL Music Should Own This..................
A great CD that takes you on a journey January 2, 2009 MusicMan (Brighton, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What I like about this CD is that these are not the Beatles "greatest hits" we are talking about. There are a few in there however most of the hits take you on a journey of the Beatles' life as a band. Here's a little information about the beatles:
The Beatles were a pop and rock band from Liverpool, England: John Lennon(rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Former members included Pete Best (drums, vocals) and Stuart Sutcliffe (bass, vocals). Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and skiffle, the group worked with different musical genres, ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, style and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. After the band broke up in 1970, all four members embarked upon solo careers.
The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, selling over one billion records internationally. In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one, earning more number one albums (15) than any other group in UK chart history. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries; their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other band. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles number one on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. According to that same magazine, The Beatles' innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s, and their influence on pop culture is still evident today. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of top-selling Hot 100 artists to celebrate the chart's fiftieth anniversary; The Beatles had topped it.
I have always loved the Beatles - my grandfather got me listining to them from the age of around five and i still listen to them today. A truly revolutionary band that I think will never be forgoten. :)
An Introduction To The Beatles December 18, 2008 MDD (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Never owned any Beatles records, so I decided to get this one. One word - fantastic. For those who don't own Beatles records, this is the perfect starting point. If you love it - I'm sure you will - then you'll end up buying more Beatles CDs. How can nobody buy this? Listening to this is the perfect lesson on how music should be made - and it makes you cry that you realise bands like them are rarely around these days, due to the charts being packed full of (c)rap and RnB. Get it, because the Beatles are quite simply the greatest thing to happen to music.
