Amazon.co.uk Review Before Sgt. Pepper's, no one seriously thought of rock music as actual art. That all changed in 1967, though, when John, Paul, George and Ringo (with "A Little Help" from their friend, producer George Martin) created an undeniable work of art which remains, after 3-plus decades, one of the most influential albums of all time. From Lennon's evocative word/sound pictures (the trippy "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", the carnival-like "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") and McCartney's music hall-styled "When I'm 64", to Harrison's Eastern-leaning "Within You Without You", and the avant-garde mini-suite, "A Day in the Life", Sgt. Pepper's was a milestone for both 1960s music and popular culture in general. --Billy Altman

The sound is as good as it could be March 4, 2010 Hmmm Remember, this album was originally recorded in 1967. Unless it is re-recorded, there is surely no more that can be done to improve the sound anymore. The sound on this 2009 reissue is great. Songs like "A Day In The Life" and the album's underrated treasure "Within You Without You" are greatly improved. Some of them still sound a bit tinny, notably "Getting Better", but that was because they were originally recorded like that. Personally, I find it improves the sound by buming up the bass. After all, when it was played in the studio that is how it would have sounded and the music sounds richer as a result. A long way from the transistors and Dansettes that so many will have first heard the album on.
This reissue has got me listening again to an album I was so familiar with I'd stopped listening to it, which cannot be a bad thing. It is like meeeting an old friend after many years. However, it still doesn't stop me hating "When I'm 64" with a vengeance !
An album full of energy, good tunes and a lot of creativity January 15, 2010 R. Williams (London) When you peel back the hype and the 'concept' album idea, this is a good collection of songs from one of the most talented bands in pop music. It is not the Beatles' greatest achievement , as some will have you believe, it does not have their best songs on it (though there are some memorable songs), but it does represent a real progression for their musical development.
Highlights include the reprise of the 'sgt pepper' song; 'With a little help from my friends' and 'A day in the life'.
The album feels like a team effort, and represents one of the final times Lennon and McCartney worked together with real enthusiasm. It's not all gold, George's 'Within You Without You' is a little dull, and 'When I'm 64' won't be to everyone's taste. But, there's enough here to entertain the more casual Beatle fan and the Beatles fanatic.
If you're new to the Beatles this is well worth a look otherwise you might try: 'The Beatles 62-66' or 'The Beatles 67-70'.
Is the sound that good? I think not. January 12, 2010 Darren Hindmarsh 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Are these new Beatles remastered cd's really that good? I purchased Sgt Pepper cd first and listened to it and didn't find it any different, just a bit more bass and that was all. I'm wondering what all the fuss is about and I found the packaging rather annoying and nearly damaged the cd getting it out of the cardbaord sleeve. anyone else feel the same.
Good, but not their best..... December 30, 2009 Mr. Jonathan Robin Oxley (Northampton, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Difficult to review such a reputable album. There are quite a few classic tracks on here (title track, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Getting Better) but also a lot of lightweight filler (Lovely Rita, When I'm 64, Fixing A Hole). But then again, the album does feature their greatest recording ever - A Day In The Life. You can only imagine what the listener was going through when first listening to this track. As an album, it's worth getting, but Revolver and Abbey Road are better overall albums.
Really Great Album December 18, 2009 Mr. W. A. Smith (Cambridge, England) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
The album is ranked the best album of all time on the "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list, need I Say more.
