Amazon.co.uk Review
If one truly embraces Harrison's own philosophical foundations, Brainwashed isn't really a posthumous release at all. Completed by longtime collaborator/producer Jeff Lynne (Traveling Wilburys, Cloud Nine) and son Dhani Harrison after the ex-Beatle succumbed to a long illness in November of 2001, it's a bittersweet reminder of the myriad contradictions that made Harrison such a compelling figure. Arguably one of the most warm, melodically rich albums of a career pockmarked by personal frankness and professional indifference in its latter years, Harrison finds rewarding ways here to reconcile bitter assessments of the material world (the title track) with more fleshly concerns, the expectations of pop legend with a muse that's familiar (the Wilburyesque "Any Road"), if sometimes as trendy as high-button shoes, as his jaunty take on the Arlen/Koehler chestnut, "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", with George on ukulele and Jools Holland on roadhouse piano ably demonstrates. With the singer's distinctive voice dry and pushed to the forefront and his trademark slide guitar riffs as sinewy as ever, Lynne's showcase production is mostly spot-on and refreshingly restrained, while Dhani Harrison brings his own fresh, touchingly personal insights to the record. He's double-tracked his own voice onto an old recording of his father chanting the traditional "Namah Parvati" and appended it as the album's spiritual benediction, a touching reminder that while musicians come and go, music can truly embody their spirit forever. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars George left us with a classic album   June 13, 2010
Patrick Wood (Leeds UK)
George's last album and it is a classic up there with all things must pass, not a bad track.R.I.P. George.

5 out of 5 stars 100% George   February 19, 2009

Sometimes posthumous albums can be a disparate patched-together affair, but not a bit of it here. Only posthumous in the sense that he died before it was truly finished, this album has to be one of the strongest of George's music career.

From the irresistable catchy but brilliantly-worded ANY ROAD, the jocular P2 VATICAN BLUES, the touching and memorable PISCES FISH, the honest LOOKING FOR MY LIFE, the lingering guitars and building drama of THE RISING SUN, the dreamlike MARWA BLUES, the beautifully arranged and melancholy STUCK INSIDE A CLOUD, the idiosyncratically Harrisonesque RUN SO FAR...and well listen to it for yourself and pump out some adjectives!

The album is a showcase of George's incredible talent and his ability to put so much of himself into his work: touching, playful, insightful. It is also a testament to Jeff Lynne's production and his obvious desire to create a testament to the great man. This is not just one for fans. In the unlikely event that you've never listened to George before, I'd have no problem recommending this as a starting point.

Six stars!

5 out of 5 stars The quiet spiritual one   March 24, 2008

This is a beautiful heartfelt masterpiece by george. His lyrics and melodies have surpassed both lennon and mccartney in their solo recordings. It,s a shame george was so underrated both in his beatles work and his solo career. This collection of songs is up there with anything
lennon/mccartney ever done. It,s a classic right through from (Any road
) to( brainwashed). This is a mostly acoustic led cd with some delicious slide guitar and the ukulele thrown in for good measure
This is a must buy cd,right up there with (all things must pass)(george harrison) and (cloud nine).

5 out of 5 stars I'm so Happy..   November 26, 2007

For me, this is George' greatest record. For whatever reason I didn't listen to it for years but I saw it last night on a shelf in my friends bedroom and thought to myself it was about time I did. And I'm very happy I have. It's superb and I've now ordered my own copy. I'd say it's even better than All things must pass.. All the songs are enjoyable and truly wonderful. To think George was where he was at, when recording it.. some of the melodies make you happy, uplifted and frankly almost close to tears.. They have that ability to make your chest fill with butterflies.. butterflies of pride, happiness and love for a wonderful man, a wonderful songwriter.

Brainwashed what can you say about a album that was done by legend like george. one thing i have to say is all the songs are george harrison classic. it's really sad that he's not here to enjoy the glowing reviews this album has got. because this album deserves all the cerdit and more not just because it was made while he was dying. it's just beautiful beyond words. and i cry everytime i hear it. Harrison I hope you've found your resting place "any road will take you there"
