| Customer Reviews: Titillating Strool Through Tittenhurst Park March 5, 2010 R. Max Totten (San Francisco, Ca United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sit back and slightly enjoyed a manic stroll through the Life of John Winston Ono Lennon!
Featuring Interviews: Man Of The Decade :
Aquarius: Lennon and Ono from 1973:
David Frost: Lennon and Ono form 1968 period:
Unfortunatley not intact which is a shame because they are slightly disjhonted on the subject matter and the flow of the program!
The lovely sounds of cheap sound alike "Penny Lane" music but hey the original would have cost a arm and a leg to licensed!!
Some footage license from ITN Source and is 70 Minutes in total
Worth the price, but as I said a little disconnected, edited in a rather clumsy way!
Included comments from regularly seen press conferences from the other Fabs mostly Macca
I think the other DVD I bought along with this one is much better
That Title: The Beatles: Here, There and Everywhere (1963-1970) Color and B/W sourced from ITN 85 Minutes
Yes, the above title is vastly superior, although some clips used in the Lennon disc are not found here, this DVD is chaptered by year and clips are fully intact! The clips form 1967-1968 are the best I've ever seen especial the David Frost show from 1968 with Lennon/Ono in vivid black and white but once again bootleg versions still have the full show!! There is a curious Sgt. Pepper era Macca interview that is really intriguing! The India clips are fully vivid in color even the Harrison clip form Bombay is so crisp and clear although the Lennon DVD does have some other nice crisp clips as well including the Paris Airport interview with the "shorned" Lennons and of the auctioning of their hair and the bloody boxer shorts, all the other bootleg clips I've collected never had been seen in color like these, it still is a shame that full segments weren't at least chapter or given as extras to view. But the Here, There and Everywhere DVD has so much sharp and wonderful chapter clips to view so differently a keeper!
All in all I guess it better to have these to view than nothing at all, Cheers
A film portrait of Beatle John Lennon March 1, 2010 BeatlesClubManchester (England UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
John Lennon Rare and Unseen is part of a collection of Dvd's released by Weinerworld which also include releases featuring The Rolling Stones & Cliff Richard.
The 75 minute documentary, John Lennon Rare and Unseen, A Film Portrait contains rare clips from the ATV television programme Man of The Decade with host Desmond Morris. Aired once on the 30th December 1969 it features John & Yoko interviewed walking through the grounds of Tittenhurst Park.
The dvd also features clips from Weekend World, thought wiped & unseen outside of the U.K and also their first appearance on the David Frost Show from 1968.
These fascinating clips are interwoven with interviews featuring Phil Collins (I don't think I'd like him), Quarryman Colin Hanton (I never saw him in a scrap, just a few scrapes) & Tony Barrow (John was the last Beatle I got to know, until we both got drunk).
So what else do you get?
Well there's plenty of Beatles interviews including the Fab four's arrival back in Liverpool after conquering the USA in 1964. Extensive coverage of the Beatles American 'Jesus' tour, also the Manilla, Phillipines debacle where the Beatles feared for their lives in 1966.
So, John Lennon Rare and Unseen - A Film Portrait takes you through the lennon years with plenty of Beatles footage to enjoy to boot and we all know that rare, unseen or even seen, John & the Beatles are always a delight to watch
An honest representation of one of the world's greatest musicians! March 1, 2010 John Peel 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying I am no great expert on this kind of DVD. I have always liked the Beatles music but have never really got into the many DVDs archiving the Beatles and everything connected with them.
However having said that, I must now say how much I enjoyed watching this John Lennon DVD, which comes from the same stable that produced the fascinating "Magical Mystery Tour Memories".
The whole thing was nicely paced and presented chronologically, which made it easy on the brain! There is certainly some nice archive film of John, showing his humorous and often too honest style. Featuring clips from such rare TV programmes as Aquarius, Weekend World and Man of The Decade, but my own favourite was John and Yoko on Frost. Seeing John more or less taking over the show and eclipsing the great David Frost is a great moment and you start to think - what if? There is always that with someone whose life didn't run its full course.
There are also a few modern day opinions thrown in by Tony Barrow, Colin Hanton, Phil Collins, and more surprisingly and interestingly Tony Booth.
This DVD left me hungry for more, that's not to say it was lacking in any way, just that it was so interesting it left you wanting more.
So I think this DVD will appeal to both the John expert and the casual viewer, it has been skilfully edited and well presented and there is definitely a space for it in any collection.
