Sloppy excecution by the BBC... December 10, 2009 Chad Bronson (Barnsley, UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
What is there to say about this travesty? Other than it's dismally awful, absoultely nothing.
Like the many that huddled to watch the most spectacular concert in history since Live Aid, many of us - nay probably all - was underwhelmed by the sloppiness of the concert as it was dismally sloshed together in a hashed attempt to get people to donate MORE money for a cause that will never be solved.
Now, before all the hate rants come in, let me say I donate frequently to charities like these, so you cant really brand me as hating them, but this palava should have been tackled years ago when the original Live Aid came together, so naturally it's a bit of a bewilderment why this idea should have been on the table.
Let us not forget whilst we give Africa billions of OUR money, it used by the corrupt African Government to pay back OUR debt that we put on them. Everyone seems to be missing the point thier world debt has been paid over many times over but thier letting it drag on like a dying dog.
The line up by themselves are particularly unusual, featuring some we have never heard of. To give a bit of respect, some of which we HAD heard of, but on the whole the bands gave a very underwhelming performance on the stage, did one song then buggered off never to be seen on the stage again. Knowing the likes of UB40 will have his pockets full with a wad of cash. So imagine if your most loved artist. You trailed hours through the video (if you have the TV Broadcast) only to find that this artist only did one song. Which is infuriating beyond belief.
Something even more infuriating is watery-eyed Jonathon Woss. Watching his intercuts is enough to turn you away from this concert, as several terrible jokes later you have missed much of the concert with his babbling, pointless commentry. It was noticeable how smug some of the artists were whilst be interviewed by Ross, more wads of cash ushered into thier back pocket. I can imagine Ross got a fair chunk of money for doing the Live Aid concert.
Like another reviewer stated, I too am extremely infuriated by multi-millionaires constantly drilling into our heads to donate money for a worthwhile cause, which bare in mind if these artists were TRUELY dedicated to cutting the debts and poverty in the likes of Africa they would put THIER hand in THIER pocket and give some money to this cause. They could probably resolve the debt on thier own, for example Bono's smug face you just want to smash in, McCartney's slimy grin, etc. etc. Now, all I am for donating money and resolving corruption in other countries, getting rid of the debt etc. etc. But what i dont believe is famous artists trying to con us into giving more money when all this should have been resolved over 20 years ago.
Now here is the hypocrisy. The artists have done this all for a good cause, but how much would it have cost for them to be transport them from Britain to USA and back again via a first class concorde? What a stupid idea, as I have a feeling much of this money will have gone towards paying for these artists to play. A dire disgrace.
What is another disgrace is how sloppy the BBC's put this together, as hapless camera men improvise and dash after artists to film thier solos, or to catch Bob Geldof picking his nose. But it dosent end there. There are far too many jump cuts in this concert, as the camera keeps switching from one to another. Far too many "B-Roll" shots - i.e. crowd shots, as a lot of whats happening on stage were cut short with jumping to crowd shots, as cameramen incorrectly veer of the artists and into the crowd, and position it in such a way that will make the viewer seasick. Considering much of the TV license at the time went towards putting this event on, but thats not the point. It gives me the impression that it was simply sloshed together for Television, then forgot about. The concert in itself is NOT the full concert bare in mind, but then again, is ANY televised concert ever complete? Hint: No.
All in all, a disappointing concert for the average Joe to be duped into effectively paying for. Lousy execution by the BBC, another way to cream more money devised by Mr. Egotist himself, Bob Geldof.
So what did come out of it? Well, artists saw thier full to bursting wallet swell as they saw thier music rocketed.
It was what it was! January 18, 2008 Christina Cooper (UAE) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For Godssake reading some of the previous reviews mentioning words such as 'narcissist' and gracious enough to say things like 'suprisingly good'. May I ask 'who the hell do you think you are?' Have you ever got up on a stage and performed? Do you know what that is like? No doubt many of you who have written reviews here live sad existences in the UK and get a tad carried away with your own self importance (not) when the opportunity arises to offer an opinion. This concert created awareness hopefully and made some money for charity. Artists turned up and performed to a crowd that were not necessarily there to see them alone which is an anxiety forming thought to an artist. Some did well others did not. It was a test if anything of the skill to capture an audience which was not necessarily yours and to entertain. In my opinion Robbie Williams won the day. What an entertainer. He had the crowd eating out of his hand and by the time he went on they had been standing for 8 hours. That, despite what all you sad cynics out there have to say is skill.
Insulting Much!!! July 8, 2007 Mellymoo (Scotland) 5 out of 17 found this review helpful
Oh I was there and it was amazing, oh I was in the golden circle, we were at hyde park and I was inspired! What drivel! Nobody cares if you went to Live 8, we want to know what the dvd is like. Well frankley I thankfully missed the live broadcast of Live 8 cos I found something better to do like counting all the squares in my house but some tiny fool decided to get me this abomination for xmas and thank god it's the thought that counts. Over looking momentarily the fact that 80 percent of the musicians were fame seeking tossers the dvd its self holds absolutely nothing of interest or importance. Extras Yawn!!! And the music it's self, well I'll admit there were a few gems in there but Madonna!?! And no offence to the old snoop dog but why!?! This whole publicity staged farce was painful to say the very least. If your a die hard Pink Floyd fan you might want to buy this for there set but other than that I say take your money and buy Live Aid 1985. That show truely was an inspiring music fest with a great message, and yes Im sure that the bands from 1985 were thinking of publicity then too but atleast they had the good sense not to show it and they were more talented anyway. But Live 8, (although Im sure Bob geldolf wanted it to send a message) ended up being a boring uneventful headache thanks to the over caution beeb showing no links or videos of any relevent matters and some of the ghastly performances by fame hungry idiots that probably thought they were there to celebrate national lipgloss day!!!
Live 8 Roma June 10, 2007 A. D. Smith (Englandshire) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
While the content was very good in itself, it was extremely disappointing to find that only 11 out of the 26 acts at Live 8 Roma were included on the DVD, and some of those only had one track apiece. Had there been a content listing available at the time of purchase I wouldn't have wasted my time or money on this.

Not much to be said about this one other than I wish I hadn't wasted my money.
