CAVERNICOLAS DE LA RISA!!! January 31, 2009 C. Bellegarrigue (El Salvador) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
PRE-CGI DINO MAYHEM. March 28, 2008 R. Smith (scotland.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
TO all those cynics who keep pointing out that man probably never co-existed with dinosaurs in the distant past: it would make a pretty pointless and dull film if the human element was kept out of all DINO-DRAMAS, just for the sake of 'accuracy'.......there would be no 'KING KONG' [in any form] and fantasy films such as these would decline to the level of standard soap-opera.
This film is a nice depature in the 'animated models' stakes, in that the design of the DINOS are distinctly cartoony, but still shot in a 'realistic' [for 1981 SP-FX] fashion. The humour-level is decidedly undergraduate, but for low-level pretense-free 'knockabout' comedy, it works fine. Effects are of a high standard, with dopey DINOS and pteros, and anyone who appreciates the RAY HARRYHAUSEN school of dimensional animation will definately find much to savour in this film.
Resolution is fine [I feared the worst, but it's definately a nice, clear enough pic]and overall this is a nicely-realized one-off production in the [pre-CGI]ANIMATED DINO stakes.
Like it was written by cavemen. February 11, 2008 Mr. J. R. Sparks (THE UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this on the recommendation of the previous two reviewers and all I can say is UH?
Or should that be UG?
No wonder it was a flop at the cinema.
Dire! And as for "This is an educational movie" - PER-LEASE!! (I won't go on about dinosaurs not being about when man walked the earth, which is what One Million Years BC got canned for)
I'm giving it one star for the Starr (get it? - OK, please yourself, but that is about the level of the comedy in this film) for curiosity value. Might amuse a 5 year old but please do explain to them the inaccuracies - that monsters and men never met..........................................
Shame really as I like Ringo and his dry sense of humour.
Absolutely brilliant. June 6, 2005 H (UK) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
What a superb film for entertainment !! I still wonder how the cast kept straight faces when filming this, and how much of the film was according to script (if there ever was one !). The dinosaurs are super, with their little personalities, and the discoveries (music, roast chicken, fire, etc etc) are well presented. A film of this calibre deserves a top position in your DVD collection !! Ignore anybody who says otherwise - they simply do no understand the purpose of entertainment.
